From Forty, J. Mythology: A Visual Encyclopedia, Greenwich Editions, London, 1999.
Rati is the Balinese version of a Hindu fertility goddess, portrayed as heavily pregnant yet still lasvicious. She is a surreal mix of the maternal and the sexual, depicted as she is as a large mammaried, maternal woman with a juxtaposing vampirish voluptuousness. Bali's old animist links survive without a mythology packed with demons, of which Rati is an example. This goddess taunts and mocks those ascetic religious males who abstain from feminine company, and is guaranteed to get hardcore puritans riled. Rati is a manifestation of female energy in all its forms and reflects the more realistic and imaginative Indian approach to mythology and religion, which allows and acknowledges considerably more variation than the sole role permitted in a female deity within Christianity and other Semitic monotheisms. The last paragraph was my basis for leaning toward the Triple Goddess model for the choice of colours (pink - maiden, red - mother, black - crone), as well as the inclusion of the circles in the background which for a very long time now I have used as a symbol for a triad. Info on Triple Deities: [link] Info on the Triple Goddess: [link] The model is gorgeous and brave for having such a photo taken (there's a couple more in her gallery). I was originally looking for something along the lines of pregnancy bdsm but decided I didn't want to see the other weird crap that's attached to such notions. I'm not entirely happy with this... the shadows are wrong. And it's not entirely what I imagined at first. Meh. i've got no suggestions...
but i like the concept, nice one!! -- v, w, x, y not? I'm Portgas D. Ace in the deviantART One Piece Crew! I like the concept alot. I feel that the background and the base under the model are divided a bit, and would love to see more bright colors come into the model and more darker colors receed to the back, if that makes sense, as of the moment, the dark and light almost fight each other.
Very cool idea..do more! -- The closer you stand to the lighthouse, the darker it gets. -Japanese proverb That could be it... make the necklace and the earring brighter (sparklier?), the model could have been slightly lighter to make her stand out from the very black area of the background.
Not sure what to do with the divide though, but to go back to the original wall-things that was behind the bed and work from there Thanks for your insight! -- LOOK MUM I'M FULL PRO AT SNAPPING TWIGS! LOOK! SEE! LOOKLOOKLOOK! ONE TWO THREE... SNAP! I'M SUCH A PRO! Complaints-inspired works 2 |
